The effect
- If pandas were extinct, bamboo would grow out of control. Pandas eat large quantities of bamboo. If they stopped eating the bamboo, it would keep growing faster than we can get rid of. Very few other animals are actually capable of eating bamboo, and the panda is able to eat because of it's strong teeth and mucus lining in his throat.
- Other animals that rely on the panda like the leopard would have to resort to other animals if the panda went extinct. If the pandas were to abruptly go extinct, then the leopard might have a difficult time adapting.
- River fish and beetle populations would rise due to the loss of it's predator, and there would be an overflow of them and they could take over and ruin the ecosystem. The beetles could ruin the ecosystem if the ate all of the grass, and leaving none for the rest of the animals.
- Cultural and Religious Aspect: Pandas are a major symbol in Chinese culture for friendship and peace. If they go extinct, China will lose a huge tradition in their culture; it would be like eagles going extinct for the U.S.
